>> reporter: three days ago, politico reported accusations, cain behaved inappropriately, toward two women who worked for him in the 1990s, when he led the national restaurant association. caip said -- cain said he never sexually harassed anyone. >> there are factions that are trying to destroy me, personally, as well as this campaign. >> reporter: cain has admitted he knew of an agreement between the restaurant association and one of the accusers. so far, neither woman has spoken to reporters, but one of their attorneys says that should change. >> lawyer joel bennett says he does not remember the specific allegations, but his client signed a confidentiality agreement with the trade group more than a decade ago. >> i think the national restaurant association ought to waive the confidentiality and nondisparrage and let the two women if they choose to, to

come forward and tell their stories. >> reporter: cain is busy on capitol hill. he met with lawmakers in search of endorsements, and cash for his campaign. >> reporter: in washington, danielle nottingham, wjz eyewitness news. >> as of now, mitt romney, the other republican at the front of the pack, has lined up more than 30 congressional endorsements for his presidential run. so far, cain has zero endorse. s from congress. we have breaking news from libya just a short time ago. sharon van dyke says her son is coming home this weekend. baltimore-based matthew van dyke was captured by rebel forces. the 32-year-old was in prison for six months before he escaped this summer. he then helped stay to fight rebels against moammar gadhafi woovment elhave more on this -- we'll have more on this developing story coming up at 5:00 and 6:00. men face charges of plotting terror attacks against the u.s.

vic is in the newsroom with more on the plan and how they were uncovered. vic? >> the four men wanted to attack u.s. officials. and one of their targets was washington, d.c. the men are part of an alleged militia group until georgia. one of them was recorded by an undercover agent, saying he wanted to make 10 pounds of ricin. one talked about dropping ricin over the air. other targets are newark, new jersey, jacksonville, and atlanta. >> the men are said to have a bucket list of government employees, politicians, corporate leaders and members of the media that needed to be taken out. long lines at security checkpoints at airports may go away. the transportation safety administration says it wants to expand faster airport screening. a small test program that prescreens travelers is turning out to be very successful. the agency plans to expand to another round of airports and

airlines. >> life behind bars. the convicted hitman is sentenced today for the murder and death of a gas station owner in towson. weijia jiang talks to his brother about punishment. >> reporter: this is the best- case scenario walter bishop could have faced. a jury spared his life, and he may each walk free -- even walk free one day. >> reporter: the jury decided his own life is too high of a price to pay for the crime. though the death penalty was on the table, bishop was sentenced to life with the possibility of parole. s he sentenced for the -- he was sentenced for the death of porter. >> it is a difficult moment. like i said, we just, you know, we appreciate all the support we've gotten and the job that's been done. >> reporter: jurors told the judge there were several reasons why they decided against capital punishment. they said it was because bishop had never been convicted of a

crime before, that he was manipulated and acting under duress of the victim's wife carla. they also talked about mental illness as to why they had mercy on his life. >> obviously, there's a victim's family here. and you know, this is a tragedy. but we believed in what we were telling this jury, that this was a complete aberration. our client had no criminal history. everybody who knew him was absolutely shocked. and we don't think he'll be a future danger. i think it's an appropriate sentence. and like i said, we're very relieved. >> reporter: bishop was also sentenced for conspiracy thargs and a handgun violation. a judge gave him another life sentence and 20 years for that. although he is eligible for parole in 40 to 50 years. in bel air, weijia jiang, wjz eyewitness news. >> carla porter's trial has

been moved to carroll county. it is scheduled for sometime next year. >> maryland -- maryland senator bribery trial under way. today, they said the powerful prince george's county democrat used his office to deliver valuable benefits to shoppers food warehouse in return for $245,000. currie's attorney said his client worked asan -- as a consultant and did nothing illegal. the judge tells troubled actress lindsay lohan, she's going to spend at least a month behind bars. >> reporter: lindsay lohan is going back to jail. >> you are to serve 30 days if the county jail now. >> reporter: the 25-year-old actress admitted she violated her probation when she got herself fired from a women's shelter. she was supposed to do her community service there, for a shoplifting incident and a drunk driving case.

>> the sentence i'm going to impose is known in our circle as "putting the keys to the jail in the defendant's hand." >> reporter: when she's done with her jail time, the judge said lohan will have to do all of her community service at the los angeles county morgue, where she started working two weeks ago. >> reporter: because of her work commitment, lohan has a week to turn herself in. the judge said she is not eligible for house arrest this time, but because of jail overcrowding, she could be released early. >> do you accept all of these new terms and conditions and modifications? >> yes, your honor. i do. >> lindsay, we love you. stay strong. >> reporter: outside the courthouse, lohan's supporters showed their support. >> we wanted to remind her that she does still have people on her side who are rooting for her and don't want to see her torn down. >> reporter: lohan will also have a tough new probation

officer who will keep her in line. her last one refused to work with her anymore. >> the judge ordered lohan to surrender in one week. and she cannot leave the country. a cause has been determined in the death of former baltimore colts player-turned actor bubba smith. he died of an overdose of diet pills. smith's body was found in his home. autopsy results showed smith had high levels of the weight loss drug fen armine in his system. he also had heart disease and an enlarged heart. he was the top overall pick in the 1967 draft. bubba smith was 67 years old. still searching for a cause, but wjz is learning more about the fire that consumed the popular mount washington tavern. the bar restaurant sustained $2.5 million in damage. the tavern burned down early respond morning. workers are working on salvaging. >> it is another beautiful day

across maryland. it is sunny and comfortable outside. wjz has weather and traffic together. meteorologist tim williams is here with the updated numbers from first warning weather. tim? >> good afternoon, everyone. good afternoon, mary. we're looking at a gorgeous afternoon outside. it is a typical fall afternoon. and this date in november, the normal high is 62. and that's exactly where we're topping out now. we're at 62 degrees. 41% relative humidity. with a variable wind around 6 miles per hour. been coming in primarily from the west. and a high barometer in place. we have nice, light winds moving in across the region. but these clouds will start to increase ahead of the next front moving our way. it could bring rain by the end of the week. for the most part, high pressure is in control, and nice, sunny conditions are in place. we'll talk about how this shaping up for the weekend coming up in your forecast. kai, back over to you. >> tim, thank you. let's check on the roads with kristy breslin at wjz traffic control. we have an accident on the top side inner loop at the

deadly air show crash. the family of a texas man who died in the reno accident is filing a $25 million lawsuit. those named in the suit, the pilot's family, a mechanic on the world war ii-era aircraft. and the nevada organization that hosted the event. 11 people were killed when the plane crashed into a group of spectators in september. saved by a cigarette lighter. police in new york say it stopped a bullet from injuring a man. the 22-year-old man was shot when three men tried to rob him on halloween night in hampstead, new york. when he tried to run, he was shot in the leg. police say it hit a lighter, which deflected it. the man was not seriously injured. in tonight's healthwatch, an amazing medical story in california. twin 2-year-old girls joined at the stomach are separated. >> the twins' mother, gina, walked out arm in arm with a

plan to prevent a financial crisis in europe. strong corporate earnings and encouraging news on the job front brought out the buyers. the payroll company, adp says private employers added 110,000 jobs last month, 10,000 more than expected. and the federal reserve says it will not take any additional steps to help the economy at this time. the central bank says consumer confidence has strengthened and consumers have increased their spending a little bit. two well-known retailers are going belly-up. discounter sims and its discount filene's basement are going out of business. the store closings will result in 2500 job cuts. and harry potter has been good for business at time warner. quarterly earnings are up 57%, topping wall street's expectations. more than a billion dollars in

right now, at 32. -- 62. north winds at 58 miles an hour. 30.32. high pressure is solidly in control. temperatures are ranging in the mid- to upper 50s. 62, our temperature at bwi marshall now. 59 in oakland. 61 in cumberland. and 56 in ocean city. you know, when our higher elevations are reading 59 degrees, the rest of the state is definitely on the comfortable side. we have 61 in bel air. 57 in annapolis. 57 on kent island. again, very comfortably, right around our normal highs for this time of year. winds are variable, coming from a few different directions. southerly no. north wind across the airport. and a southeast wind across elkton. even a northeast wind down around ocean city. not too much of ray gusty or -- a gusty or blustery afternoon. and what we're going to be watching over the next two days or so, high pressure is in

control, bringing us these nice, seasonably cool conditions. but we have a pretty decent storm system out to the west. it's affecting colorado as the last few have. so it's going to be probably a storm that is concentrated around the rockies. but the clouds are going to start to fill in, or filter in, i should say, across the mid- atlantic over the next few days. what we're going to see, the high is going to ease offshore. it's going to allow for this front to move on through. the front, however, dies to the south. so we could get clipped with just a little bit of a shower. the temperatures will respond by dropping just a little bit. but we rebound very nicely, as high pressure builds in just in time for the weekend. the sun comes back, and the temperatures start to level out back around average highs. sunset at 6:03. south wind on the bay. 5 to 10 knots. next high tide at fort mchenry is at 4:26. again, right on target for the average it time of year. for tomorrow, must much like today.

>> i have not been charged with any crime in any country. we will be considering our next step in the days ahead. >> reporter: two judges ruled assange should be extradited to sweden, where he's wanted for questioning in the alleged sexual attacks of two volunteers for his website. the wikileaks founder said the encounters last year in stockholm were consensual. the 40-year-old created a firestorm in the u.s. when his website published thousands of secret diplomatic cables. the secret service says americans were put at risk. he could face charges in the u.s. >> reporter: assange has 14 days to appeal to britain's supreme court. if the beginning, he has argued that his critics were behind the allegations. >> it's disappointing. but in a sense, it's not surprising. julian has made powerful enemies in the last year. >> i think he might end up in the united states. that's the end game. >> reporter: assange remains free on bail under virtual house arrest at a friend's

estate in london. rita nissan, wjz eyewitness news. >> assange's wikileaks' website is also reportedly running out of money. if donations don't pick up, it could go silent for good. he is charged with killing his wife and stepson. kai is in the newsroom with details on his return. >> reporter: this afternoon, maryland state police brought lopez back to maryland. he was released from jail in north carolina this morning. the 45-year-old is charged with first-degree murder in the death of his estranged wife, jane mcquain. he's also suspected of murdering her 11-year-old son william mcquain. their bodies were found in separate locations in montgomery county last month. lopez waived his right to an extra addition hearing last-- ex extradition hearing. testimony continues in the bethesda, lulu lemon murder trial. the prosecution calls more witnesses to the stand.

>> reporter: britney norwood is facing first-degree murder charges in the death of her coworker, jayna murray in march. norwood originallyally told police two men came into the store, assaulted norwood and killed murray. but police arrested norwood, claiming she was the killer, after murray accused her of stealing merchandise. >> in court, police heard the videotaped confession of norwood. >> you're one of the best sources because you were there, montgomery detective jim drury tells norwood. norwood had been called to the station to submit hair and fingerprint samples. i don't want to get ink in your cuts. norwood, oh, it's not that bad. we now know norwood's blood was found in murray's car. >> do you know what kind of car jayna drives?

i don't. i saw it once. i don't know the make and model. >> reporter: a shoe print expert went to say jayna murray's shoes were not found in the store. and based on her original story two intruders. crime scene investigators, though, only found two. >> murray's mother took the stand and said her daughter would have turned 31 later this month. >> reporter: now, norwood's lawyers admit she killed murray, but say it was not premeditated. prosecutors are seeking a sentence of life without parole. the state mental hospital, is under investigation after patients are killed inside its walls. helso will take over. he served as ceo of spring grove hospital in spring grove since 2004. three patients have died in the past year, two in the last month. those cases are under

investigation. we have sad news to tell you about, long-time local journalist and wjz anchor, ted jeffy has died. he retired in 1989 to spend time with his family. he is survived by his three sons and two grandchildren. jaffey was 92 years old. in tonight's healthwatch, it's a saying that has been around for generations. but do freshmen really gain 15 pounds when they head off to college? mary bubala is in the newsroom with more on the new study. >> reporter: researchers decided to get to the bottom of the myth once and for all. and their findings are good news for diet-conscious undergrads. of all of the studies, scientists say most gained significantly less than 15 pounds during their first year on campus. in fact, on average, those who said they gained weight said they only gained about 3 pounds. roughly 25% lost weight during their freshman year. times have changed, denise. >> the study was conducted by researchers from ohio state and

major developments in a high-profile shooting. former lieutenant and four others pleaded guilty to covering up a deadly feens shoot -- new orleans shooting on a bridge. michael lowman faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison. prosecutors are urging a judge to suspend three years so that lowman is released after serving just two. remains of thousands of unidentified 9/11 victims in new york city. the city. s to house the remains in a museum to remember those who died in the terror attacks. relatives say the remains should be in a separate more respectable place. taking the day off for an anti-wall street rally. >> reporter: the city is allowing its employees to take personal time to participate in the protest.

protestors spilled into the streets this morning, disrupting the downtown oakland commute. demonstrators are teaming up to picket banks and take over foreclosed homes and vacant buildings. the crowds have been peaceful. police presence is light. oakland's general strike is blaming financial institutions blamed for high unemployment and the protest. >> they are also striking against local school closures, union benefits and cuts to services. in tonight's healthwatch, more and more parents are opting to delay getting their children vaccinated. but some are giving those children the cold shoulder. bigat shivan reports for wjz. >> reporter: 11-year-old chris barnes is getting his latest rounds of vaccinations, for measles and tetanus. >> it is desirey. just -- scary, just the shot. >> reporter: without regular immunizations, chris would be

turned away at his regular pediatrician clinic. the doctor refuses to see those who don't get the schedule. he is among those who don't give parents the option of delaying childhood vaccines. >> these things prevent diseases that we don't have to see anymore. >> reporter: the centers for disease control recommends 27 immunizations by a child's 2nd birthday. >> reporter: but some parents think that is too frequent and want the option to spread them out. yedmina asked her pediatrician to slow down her child's shot schedule. >> just felt right to us, given that she's young and her immune system is developing. >> reporter: but the doctor argues the timing can impact the effectiveness. >> although a parent has the right to their children's immunizations as they see it, they don't have a right to endanger school children. >> reporter: chris's mom feels better waiting in the doctor's
